TCF

Description 

TCF, Test de connaissance du Français (Test of French Knowledge), is a test allowing to evaluate and validate one's level in French language. This certification is valid for 2 years and is recognised by the French Higher Education and university authorities, university language centres in France and abroad, as well as administrative authorities and different institutions responsible for teaching French abroad.

TCF is a comprehensive placement test delivered by CIEP, which enables to assess non-native speakers' level in French language. It works as a photographical cliché of the linguistic proficiency of a person at a specific moment of his life.
It is valid for 2 years.

The exam consist of:

  • 3 compulsory tests (MCQ*) : oral comprehension, mastery of language structure and written comprehension.
  • 2 optional tests: written expression and/or oral expression.

Next sessions

- FEBRUARY 2019

  • Exams: Thursday, 15 February, 2019
    • Registrations from January 7 to 18, 2019.
    • The exam will take place in Aix-en-Provence, 29 avenue Robert Schuman- Building T1-MULTIMEDIA (AMU - ALLSH University) - Room 2.08*. The oral examination will take place during the afternoon, in the building T1-PORTE.

- APRIL 2019

  • Exams: April 26, 2019 -  Room to be confirmed
    • Registrations from March 11 to 28, 2019
    • The oral examination will take place during the afternoon

Registration terms 

Registrations can be made directly at the Exam center office, or, depending on the chosen payment method, by post mail or by e-mail (adress in the registration form).

Required documents:
- Registration form filled carefully (by computer if possible)
- A copy of your identity card or passport
- an ID photo
- The payment (*see details bellow)
- For remote registrations, enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Rates

4 possible formulas:

  • Compulsory tests (MCQ):                80 €
  • MCQ + written expression test:     120 €

  • MCQ + 2 optional tests:                 150 €
             - Written expression
             - Oral expression

  • 2 optional tests only:                        80 €
    (for those who have already taken the MCQ in the past 2 years)

The registration fees are non-refundable.

Results 

Results are usually available within 2 or 3 weeks after the exams. A temporary transcript is then given, awaiting the official grade transcript (generally available within a month).

These results situate the candidates on the six levels scale (from A1 to C2) of the Council of Europe (CEFR)* : See the self-assessment grids in French, English or in Spanish.

Note:
- Registration in French Universities requires usually a B2 or C1 level.
- SUFLE does not offer the TCF for access to French nationality nor for Quebec immigration (In these cases, you may contact Alliance Française in Marseille).
